EO 14365 Ensuring a National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence

Description 

This Executive Order (EO) directs the establishment of a coordinated federal approach to artificial intelligence policy. It instructs federal agencies to promote AI innovation and U.S. competitiveness while ensuring responsible development and use, including attention to safety, security, privacy, civil rights, and workforce impacts. The Order also calls for interagency coordination and guidance to create a more consistent national framework for AI governance.

Action to be taken

  • Establish AI governance with a cross-functional team and clear institutional policies.
  • Review compliance and risk, including privacy, bias, accessibility, vendor contracts, and alignment with federal requirements (e.g., Title IV, FERPA).
  • Set clear guidance for teaching and learning, including academic integrity expectations.
  • Strengthen data security and oversight of AI tools used in admissions, advising, and instruction.
  • Build AI literacy for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Monitor guidance from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute of Standards and Technology to ensure continued compliance.
